The GMAT Focus Edition uses a total score range of 205–805, reported in 10-point increments. Each of the three sections is scored individually on a scale of 60–90.

The Quantitative Reasoning section measures your ability to reason mathematically, solve quantitative problems, and interpret graphic data. You'll have 45 minutes for 21 questions.
Master these core concepts that appear in almost every quant section:
Understand integers, fractions, decimals, prime numbers, odd/even rules, and divisibility. Key rules to memorize:
Set up ratios as fractions and cross-multiply. For word problems, assign variables to the actual quantities, not the ratio parts.
Remember: "percent of" means multiply. Percent change = (New − Old) / Old × 100. Successive percentages don't simply add—use multipliers.
Strategy Tip: For successive percentage changes, multiply the factors. A 20% increase then 20% decrease = 1.2 × 0.8 = 0.96 (a 4% decrease, NOT back to original).
Solve by isolating the variable. Remember: multiplying or dividing an inequality by a negative number flips the sign. For systems of equations, use substitution or elimination.
Know these identities cold: (a+b)² = a² + 2ab + b², (a−b)² = a² − 2ab + b², (a+b)(a−b) = a² − b². Factor, use the quadratic formula, or complete the square.
Translate carefully: "is" → =, "of" → ×, "more than" → +, "less than" → −. Work-rate problems: combined rate = sum of individual rates.
Focus on triangles (area, Pythagorean theorem, special triangles 30-60-90 and 45-45-90), circles (area, circumference, arc length), and coordinate geometry (distance, midpoint, slope).
Key Formulas: Triangle area = ½bh. Circle area = πr². Cylinder volume = πr²h. The diagonal of a rectangle with sides a,b = √(a²+b²).
