GMAT Focus Edition Scoring

The GMAT Focus Edition uses a total score range of 205–805, reported in 10-point increments. Each of the three sections is scored individually on a scale of 60–90.

How This Test Scores: Your section scores are calculated based on accuracy percentage mapped to the 60–90 range. The total score combines all three sections using a weighted formula that maps to the 205–805 scale, matching the real GMAT's scoring methodology. Percentile rankings are provided based on official GMAT score distributions.

📐 Quantitative Reasoning Guide

The Quantitative Reasoning section measures your ability to reason mathematically, solve quantitative problems, and interpret graphic data. You'll have 45 minutes for 21 questions.

1. Arithmetic Fundamentals

Master these core concepts that appear in almost every quant section:

Number Properties

Understand integers, fractions, decimals, prime numbers, odd/even rules, and divisibility. Key rules to memorize:

  • Even ± Even = Even | Odd ± Odd = Even | Even ± Odd = Odd
  • Even × Any = Even | Odd × Odd = Odd
  • Prime numbers: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31… (2 is the only even prime)
  • Divisibility rules: by 3 (digit sum ÷ 3), by 4 (last 2 digits ÷ 4), by 6 (÷ by both 2 and 3)
Example: If n is a positive integer and n² is divisible by 72, what is the smallest value of n? 72 = 8 × 9 = 2³ × 3² For n² to be divisible by 2³ × 3², n must contain at least 2² × 3¹ = 12 Check: 12² = 144. Is 144 ÷ 72 = 2? ✓ Answer: n = 12

Ratios and Proportions

Set up ratios as fractions and cross-multiply. For word problems, assign variables to the actual quantities, not the ratio parts.

Percentages

Remember: "percent of" means multiply. Percent change = (New − Old) / Old × 100. Successive percentages don't simply add—use multipliers.

Strategy Tip: For successive percentage changes, multiply the factors. A 20% increase then 20% decrease = 1.2 × 0.8 = 0.96 (a 4% decrease, NOT back to original).

2. Algebra

Linear Equations & Inequalities

Solve by isolating the variable. Remember: multiplying or dividing an inequality by a negative number flips the sign. For systems of equations, use substitution or elimination.

Quadratics

Know these identities cold: (a+b)² = a² + 2ab + b², (a−b)² = a² − 2ab + b², (a+b)(a−b) = a² − b². Factor, use the quadratic formula, or complete the square.

Word Problems → Equations

Translate carefully: "is" → =, "of" → ×, "more than" → +, "less than" → −. Work-rate problems: combined rate = sum of individual rates.

Example: Machine A fills a tank in 6 hours, Machine B in 4 hours. Together? Rate A = 1/6 per hour, Rate B = 1/4 per hour Combined = 1/6 + 1/4 = 2/12 + 3/12 = 5/12 per hour Time = 12/5 = 2.4 hours = 2 hours 24 minutes

3. Geometry

Focus on triangles (area, Pythagorean theorem, special triangles 30-60-90 and 45-45-90), circles (area, circumference, arc length), and coordinate geometry (distance, midpoint, slope).

Key Formulas: Triangle area = ½bh. Circle area = πr². Cylinder volume = πr²h. The diagonal of a rectangle with sides a,b = √(a²+b²).

4. Strategies for Test Day

  • Time management: ~2 minutes per question. Don't spend 5+ minutes on any single problem.
  • Backsolving: Plug answer choices into the problem when solving algebraically seems complex.
  • Smart numbers: When a problem uses fractions or percentages without specific values, pick convenient numbers (100 for percentages, LCM for fractions).
  • Estimation: Eliminate clearly wrong answers first, then calculate precisely if needed.
